On the 11 June 2016, between 12 noon and 2.00pm, at the Cross Guns pub in our neighbouring village of Avoncliff, we bought the largest round of beer, and raised 412 glasses for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
The 412 drinks included 283 pints (35.4 gallons) of our award-winning Tunnel Vision. Assembled guests included the Mayor of Trowbridge, Councillor Linda Self. Over a two-hour period a team of five bar staff, including landlady Annette Roberts and husband and brewery owner Andy, pulled pumps and tapped casks to ensure more than 400 people enjoyed a drink at our expense to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. This beats the current world record set by the late Merle Haggard on 21 March 1983 at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth, USA.
Andy explained: “We wanted to mark the occasion of Her Majesty’s special day in the way we know best. It was our pleasure to extend our hospitality to friends and neighbours. Our bar bill wasn’t as big as Mr Haggard’s, but we think we can claim to have bought the World’s biggest round of beers, that’s for sure.”
