Two more medals for us in this year’s ‘Beer Olympics’

We’ve been awarded a gold and a bronze in this year’s International Beer Challenge.

Created to celebrate our 10th anniversary and Inspired by Roger Protz after his visit to the Brewery, Full Steam Ahead took a gold in the awards. The 10% barley wine was matured in Madeira barrels for 12 months and production has been limited to 1,600 75cl bottles.

Philip Downes, our Master Brewer (and one of only a handful still working in the UK), describes the oak-aged limited edition ale as: “a robust and distinctive barley wine with rich fruit and toffee flavours. Although Full Steam Ahead is itself a bit of a one-off, it’s a great example of the care we’ve put into our beers every day for the last decade.”

We also picked up a bronze medal for Funnel Blower, it’s 4.5% porter which impressed the judges with its “vanilla sweetness contrasting a slight bitterness from roasted barley and chocolate malts.”

We’re obviously very proud to have earned two more awards for our growing trophy cabinet. For us, it’s a vindication of our commitment to the traditional craft of brewing and the use of the very best ingredients since we set out 10 years ago. Now it’s Full Steam Ahead here at Box.
