Pub of the week: The Black Horse

It’s British Pie Week and we had to fly the flag for this fantastic Wiltshire coaching inn, on the edge of Cherhill Down, near Calne.

Overlooked by the white horse, the Black Horse dates back to the 18th century and provides a welcoming pitstop for walkers; the local landscape also features Oldbury Castle earthwork and Lansdowne Monument.

A tempting menu awaits, complete with pies galore – all served with mash or chips, vegetables and gravy. The question is, which pie – steak and ale; chicken and leek; spiced cauliflower or lamb and chorizo?

For pie and pint lovers looking for a log burning fire and a pint of restorative Black Horse Ale – brewed by our talented team – the Black Horse should be on your list this weekend.

We’ll never produce factory style beer. Our creative brewers use hop flavours to their full, forever artful in the quite wondrous production of naturally flavoursome beer.

Our roots are firmly in the West Country, where we continue to be inspired by the engineering triumphs of the late great Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
