Pub of the week: the Royal Oak

To the village pub! This week’s recommendation is a traditional Wiltshire alehouse, in the charmingly named Great Wishford.

Just outside Salisbury, along the picturesque Wylye valley, you’ll be warmly received by the Royal Oak, which offers all you could want from a classic country pub.

Alongside our golden ale, Piston Broke and hoppy, APA Golden Bolt, there’s a wide selection of beers, ales, lagers, ciders and wines – plus a menu full of comforting choices you’ll struggle to resist. Its popular Sunday carvery is a must too.

It’s a local with plenty of atmosphere, and pride at being at the core of its community. Regular events include its open mic, as well as quiz and club nights – and the village’s Oak Apple Day, a tradition supported by the pub every year in May.

Whether or not the fires are crackling away in the bar, you’ll leave the The Royal Oak with a warm glow. And so we say that this weekend folks, it’s a place you really must go!
