Teacher Training

Sunny’s Hot Power Fusion class tonight was probably the most fun I’ve ever had in a yoga class. I don’t say that statement very lightly either. I love me some yoga and have taken a number of yoga classes over the years. This class was by far one of my absolute favorites. It was still the same Hot Power Fusion sequence, but what made this class so fun was the music Sunny played in class. She called it her Yacht Rock playlist. It was filled with Hall & Oats, Steely Dan, Stevie Nicks and Toto, just to name a few. I couldn’t help but sing in some of the postures because the music was so good.

Sunny started off class by setting the intention to have fun and not take yoga so seriously. I know I’m guilty of taking yoga a bit too seriously at times. Sometimes a yoga class doesn’t go quite the way I think it should – I could be having a difficult time holding certain postures, I don’t get the spot I want in class, I’m not sweating enough, my costume isn’t fitting quite right or my bun isn’t set the way I want it to be on my head. All of that noise in my head takes over my whole class and distracts me from the actual yoga itself. By setting the intention for class to just have fun, I was able to quiet everything else going on in my head. I ended up having a really great class tonight with my husband who was on the mat next to me. I could tell he was digging the music as much as I was.

Since I’m still in yoga teacher training and slowly meeting the 60-class requirement for graduation, I thought I’d try on all of the different options given by Sunny in tonight’s class. I put my hands to my lower back during the Back Bend, kickstand my feet during the Vinyasa Style Tree pose and sat on a block in Fixed Firm instead of going all the way down to my back. It felt good to not push my body through all of the postures. Again, I was completely focused on having fun all throughout class.

Couple of other highlights in Sunny’s HPF class tonight – we did all of the bonus round postures and I received the amazing Half Tortoise hands-on adjustment from Sunny. Amazing!!

After class, my husband and I kept our mats set up in the studio in preparation for Sunny’s Yoga Sculpt class right after. Tonight was another double dose of yoga with Sunny for us. I love Mondays just for this very reason!
