My motto has always been, “Early is on time and on time is late. If you’re late, don’t even bother coming unless you have a really good excuse.” I apply this motto to all aspects of my life, especially my yoga practice. Bikram Yoga is my ultimate way to release stress from daily life. The last thing I want to do is roll into a class late and feel even more stressed out for an entire 90 minutes than when I originally walked into the studio. As part of yoga etiquette, I always plan on arriving to the studio anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes before class starts. Here’s why…

Heat is a key element when it comes to Hot Yoga and Bikram Yoga. It’s also the thing people either love or dislike the most about this type of yoga. Whenever I talk to friends about Bikram Yoga, the first thing they mention is the heat. In fact, the number one excuse I hear from friends who refuse to try Bikram Yoga is their fear of not being able to handle the heat. Whether you love or hate the heat, there are benefits to practicing yoga in a heated studio.

Before you go shopping for your Bikram Yoga costume, think about what you’ll feel comfortable wearing to class. Remember, the room is going to be hot. A traditional Bikram Yoga class is heated up to 105F with 40% humidity. You’ll be in there for an hour and a half so be prepared to sweat a lot. You’ll want to wear minimal clothing that stretches easily and feels comfortable getting sweating and sticky in.
