After feeling like I was going to have a mental meltdown earlier this week, I decided to take the whole day off from work today. Here it is five weeks into my Yoga Teacher Training and I’ve hardly had any extra time to memorize the sequence or practice teach outside of our group sessions. My day off today was 100% focused on yoga! I finished putting together my flashcards of the entire Hot Power Fusion sequence, color-coded, with cues and breath. I also went through a couple rounds of trying to memorize the postures and cues on my flashcards with my husband before our Group Session tonight.
What a difference eight hours of studying makes! I came into our Yoga Teacher Training Group Session tonight feeling super confident. Not confident like I could teach an entire Hot Power Fusion class, but confident in knowing I could make it through a couple rounds of Hot Power Fusion Popcorn and Practice Teaching Round Robin without feeling like a complete idiot.
We started off our Group Session tonight with a couple rounds of HPF Popcorn, only this time we switched it up to Jiffy Pop. This just meant it was a much faster round of going around in a circle, taking turns shouting out the breath and name of each posture along with transitions if they were necessary.
Then we jumped right into Round Robin, where we each got a chance to practice teach a portion of the Hot Power Fusion sequence. At some point, instead of waiting to be called on, I volunteered myself to take my turn for Round Robin. I was pretty nervous and used a lot of ums. I even forgot a few cues and postures along the way, but for the first time ever in teacher training, I was having fun! I still sweated my way through all of the postures and cues, but apparently that’s part of the process. Everyone in our group has been saying they’re nervous to cue practice teaching, even some of those who are currently teaching other yoga classes at CorePower already.
My favorite part of our Group Session tonight was when Sunny gave us a timeout from Hot Power Fusion and staged a mini dance party. It was a pretty epic three minutes. We even created our own Soul Train line. It was nice to be able to dance and laugh out some of those practice teaching jitters.
