Teacher Training
This morning was my third Yoga Sculpt class. I can’t believe there was a time, not too long ago, when I was actually too scared to go to a Yoga Sculpt class. That’s not the case anymore. Yoga Sculpt is quickly becoming one of my favorite classes to take at CorePower Yoga. I love the energy, the challenge, feeling the burn and the sense of accomplishment I feel after finishing each class.
Sunny’s Yoga Sculpt class this morning was packed! When I saw “packed,” I don’t mean because the class was three rows deep in the studio. I mean “packed” as in someone had to come into the studio five minutes before class started and ask people to move their mats over closer to each other just so they could make room for more people coming into the class. With this many people in class, the hand weights supply in the back of the room depleted down to zero. They had to pull weights from other rooms to make sure everyone in class had weights to use during class.
Class started off with a couple rounds of Sun Salutation. This is the part of a Yoga Sculpt class I feel the most comfortable with. I know the postures. I know the order in which to do the postures. I also haven’t quite broken into a sweat at this point of class yet.
After the warm up, we got right to it with lots of arm work using hand weights, tons of cardio, plenty of core and wrapped up class with several rounds of leg exercises using the hand weights. I did a pretty good job of keeping up with the class until we reached Side Plank. I tend to weeble wobble my way through this posture. I ended up collapsing to my knees into Table Top instead of doing the full round of Side Plank. I needed to catch my breath. My heart felt like it was going to pump its way out of my chest. In hindsight, this was a very good feeling, especially because I haven’t moved my body like this in a long time. It was a friendly public service announcement from all of my muscles telling me I needed to move like this more often. I was completely pooped by the time we reached the final stretching postures. Savasana couldn’t come soon enough.
Even with using the lightest hand weights available (3 lbs each) during class, my arms were burning by the end of class. I know I’m going to have a tough time lifting my arms tomorrow. I had a hard enough time trying to lift them after class just to put my sweatshirt on!
I’ve only taken three Yoga Sculpt classes so far, but with each class I take, I’m quickly becoming a big fan. I love how physically challenging these classes are. I love how much more strong my body gets with each Yoga Sculpt class I take. I’m starting to notice little muscles here and there poking out through all of my sweat during class. It’s awesome! Yoga Sculpt is a lot of hard work with a ton of awesome pay off. I haven’t moved my body like this in a long time and it feels so good to do so.
