Teacher Training

I hate having to rush to a yoga class. The whole idea of taking a yoga class is usually to relax and relive stress from life outside of the studio. Tonight, my husband and I had to rush our way into Sunny’s Hot Power Fusion class because traffic was so bad. Even though we left early, allowing ourselves plenty of time to get to the studio, it still took us over a half hour to get there. Super frustrating. Not the way I wanted to start class tonight.

This was both my husband and I’s first time at the CorePower Yoga U-District studio. Not only did we have to fight traffic, but we also had to figure out where the studio was, where to park, how to pay for parking and get ourselves acclimated to a new location. As soon as I walked into the studio and saw Sunny’s smiling face, the traffic headache we had just endured on our way to the studio ceased to exist. I told Sunny not only was I bringing my hubby with me to class, but that we were also staying for her Yoga Sculpt class after Hot Power Fusion. That’s right. We were doing a double yoga dose with Sunny tonight!

In an effort to get into the room faster to set up both my husband and I’s mats, I almost walked into the men’s changing room instead of the main lobby. Whoops! Like I said, we were acclimating to a new location tonight. I vowed not to take that wrong turn again.

After getting into the room and catching my breath, I stood on my feet and set my intention for class. I could hear Sunny’s voice in my head saying, “Trust the process.” So I went with that for my intention and sent it out into the room on a big exhale.

My husband and I set up all the way in the back of the room. Since we had come in a little late, I didn’t want to distract anyone else in the class by setting up in front of them. Plus, this was only my husband’s third Hot Power Fusion class. I wanted him to be able to watch other people in the class, myself included, just in case he got lost on a posture and didn’t know what to do or where to go next.

Not only was this my first class at the U-District studio, this was also my first Hot Power Fusion class with Sunny. I loved her class!! I loved her energy. I loved her commentary in-between the cues. I loved her music. I also lucked out and got my favorite hands-on assist in Half Tortoise Pose/Ardha Kurmasana from Sunny in class tonight. Score! I really want to learn and master this hands-on assist so I can offer this one to my own students someday.

Right after Full Wind Removing Pose/Pavanamuktasana, Sunny guided us through all of the bonus round postures we covered during our Yoga Teacher Training Group Session on Sunday. We started with Legs Up The Wall and then went into Plow Pose/Halasana, Shoulder Stand Pose/Sarvangasana, Ear Pining Pose and Happy Baby Pose/Ananda Balasana before landing into final Savasana. It was really awesome to get to do all of the bonus round postures, especially since we just went over them in our Posture Clinic on Sunday.
