Teacher Training
So here it is! At last, the first night of yoga teacher training has happened. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this night for the last two months, ever since I first secured my spot in the program back in December. I’ve enrolled in CorePower Yoga’s Hot Power Fusion Teacher Training. For the next eight weeks, I will be meeting with my training group three nights a week for three hours at a time. In our group sessions, we will be doing anything from practicing a full Hot Power Fusion class to learning about the principles of teaching, the history of yoga, anatomy, various posture clinics, practicing teaching with one another, adjustments, chakras, how to use props and even go over the business of yoga. In addition to the three group sessions each week, we’ll also be taking a total of 60 yoga classes over the eight-week training program. That’s a whole lot of yoga!
Last night, our first session was full of welcomes and introductions. We got to meet all of our lead trainers and each other. I always love hearing people’s back-story on how they came to be where they are today. Each of the program leaders took turns sharing their story of how they discovered yoga and why they decided to teach and practice yoga at CorePower. Then each of us trainees got to share with the group our own yoga background and something new we’ve tried in the last 30 days. Mine was discovering Yin Yoga for the first time (I’m in love with Devyn’s Monday and Wednesday night class at Seattle Yoga Lounge) and taking my first ever C2 class at CorePower Yoga. I have one more C2 class to go before I throw myself in a Yoga Sculpt class.
We received our program handbooks – holy moly they’re huge and heavy! We even got our first assignment, which is to write an essay on what yoga means to each of us. Stay tuned for that one on my blog.
The last thing we did for the evening was write on an oversized post-it, one word on how we each wanted our yoga teacher training to be over the next eight-weeks. At first, I had no idea what to write. I know I want to deepen my yoga practice, get more flexible, feel comfortable doing the Hot Power Fusion sequence, earn my 200-hour yoga teaching certificate from Yoga Alliance and feel confident leading a hot yoga class of my own, but to sum that all in one word was more difficult than I could imagine. I ended up going with two words for the poster – positive (adding a plus sign and a smiley face) and inspiring. Anything worth doing is worth doing with a smile and who wouldn’t want a program like this to be inspiring? I’m really excited for the next eight weeks. I hear it’s going to be life changing. I’ll keep you posted throughout my journey.
