Yoga is the ultimate stress reliever from my life that’s filled with work, deadlines, meetings, projects, excessive to-do lists and a never-ending list of errands I need to run. There are, however, rare occasions when going to yoga has created stress instead of getting rid of it. I like to call these, “OMG Class Moments!” In life, we always need to remind ourselves that nothing and no one is perfect, even one’s yoga’s practice. Here’s a great example of how I was ripped out of my normal yoga blissful state after attending class recently.

I showed up at the studio ten minutes before class. I had just enough time to change into my yoga costume, stuff my gear into a locker and set up a spot in class. I’ve never brought a lock with me to the studio to lock up my things during class because I’m only in there for an hour and really, who’s going to jack my stuff in a yoga changing room? It’s not like I’m bringing anything of value in there anyways. Well, maybe my car keys, wallet, cell phone and change of clothes. But still, who would jack my stuff?

After a great, hour-long Hot Power Fusion class at CorePower Yoga, I went into the changing room and opened what I thought was the locker I had stuffed my things in before class and found it empty. OMG! I instantly started to panic. I quietly talked myself down and thought maybe I put my stuff in a locker next to the one I opened. I opened every locker on that side of the wall and couldn’t find my stuff. I knew letting myself panic wouldn’t help make my stuff appear. But here I was only wearing sweaty boy shorts and a sports bra. I didn’t have my car keys or a cellphone. I didn’t have anyone’s phone number memorized so I couldn’t call anyone to bring me a change of clothes. I didn’t even have warm enough clothes to leave the studio to walk home if I needed to. Then I thought about the cash I forgot I had in my wallet. Dammit! Why didn’t I go to the ATM earlier? Ugh! What was I going to do?

I decided to go to the front desk and told them my situation – the stuff I had put in the locker before class was all gone. Everything. Gone! She helped me look in lost and found. Maybe my stuff had fallen out of the locker during class and a kind soul turned it in so it wouldn’t be sitting on the ground waiting for someone not so kind to sift through? She didn’t find anything. The same girl walked back with me into the changing room and proceeded to open every locker that didn’t have a lock on it. It wasn’t until she got to the opposite side of where I thought my stuff was suppose to be, that she turned around and asked me, “Is this your stuff?” There it was – my hoodie, my jacket, my pants, wallet, car keys – MY STUFF!! I was instantly relived. Thank you! Thank you!

I couldn’t help but feel like an idiot. I had been so convinced I’d put my stuff in one locker only to find I had put my stuff in a different locker on the opposite side of the changing room. Face palm to forehead! I could chalk this one up to me being overtaken by post class yoga bliss, but I think I just need to pay better attention next time and remember where I stash my stuff before class.
