Teacher Training
I was so excited when I found out Jordan was teaching the 10am Yin Yoga class this morning at Bikram Yoga Everett. I met Jordan in the first Bikram Yoga class I ever took at Bikram Yoga Everett back in December. She was the photographer for the class during the studio’s holiday party. I recently discovered Yin Yoga earlier this month at Seattle Yoga Lounge and fell in love just after taking one class. I’ve been practicing Bikram Yoga on the weekends at Bikram Yoga Everett. This weekend, I wasn’t able to make the 8am Bikram Yoga class on Sunday morning, so I made sure I made time on my calendar to check out Jordan’s Yin Yoga class at 10am.
As I walked into the room, I noticed the “spa music” playing in the background. It was the same kind of music I hear whenever I get a facial. It was soothing and immediately put me at ease. The temperature of the room was warm, but not heated. There was some leftover heat from the previous Bikram Yoga class, but the warmness made the room feel comfortable, especially with it being pretty cold outside. I picked a spot in the far right, front corner of the room to set up my mat. Class hadn’t even started yet and I already felt so invited and comfy.
I looked around the room as Jordan began class and noticed that the room wasn’t crowded at all. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have their own space to stretch out around them. Class began with a short, guided meditation helping each of us to focus on setting our own intention for class. I chose to focus on creativity. I had to write my first essay for yoga teacher training after class and used this morning’s class to help me get my creative juices flowing.
Class was super relaxing and easy to follow along to. There was so sweating whatsoever. Just an hour and fifteen minutes of deep breaths, incredible stretching and some much needed “me” time. Jordan gave clear cues, which made getting into each posture and the transition into the next one a breeze. During class, we used two props – a bolster and one block. We used these props in a number of hip opening postures that felt really good to sit back into. I felt like the longer we spent in each of the postures, the more my body would relax and open up.
This was the first Yin Yoga class I’ve taken during the day. Up until this point, I had been taking a 9pm Yin Yoga class on Mondays and Wednesday nights. These classes always prepared me for an incredible night’s sleep. I was worried if I took Yin Yoga during the day, I’d come out of class feeling super sleepy and not be able to function for the rest of the day. After taking Jordan’s class this morning, it was quite the opposite actually. To my surprise, I left her class feeling energetic and ready to tackle my essay.
And so my love for Yin Yoga continues to grow…How have I not discovered this style of yoga sooner?
